About the Author

Best known for her Junie B. Jones books, Barbara Park (1947–2013) was author of over 50 books and the winner of dozens of awards for children's literature. Trained in secondary education, she described her student teaching experience as a "nightmare" and decided to try her hand at humor writing instead, since she'd been voted "wittiest" by her high school senior class.

As funny in reality as her fictional characters, Park became famous for her humorous interactions with her legions of young readers. Asked when her birthday was, Park answered, "April 21st, 1812…I don't want to brag, but I think I've held up well." Asked what she did when she wasn't writing, she replied, "I eat frozen M&Ms." She once said of her most popular series: "I've never been sure whether Junie B.'s fans love her in spite of her imperfections…or because of them. But either way, she's gone out into the world and made more friends than I ever dreamed possible."
