Summary

More
It isn't wise to hang heavy things on the wall next to the bed. Stanley learns this the hard way when a bulletin board falls on him while he's sleeping. Now he's half an inch thick, and the doctor can't do a thing about it.

So how's he doing? Just fine. In fact, he's enjoying it. He can slide under doors and slip through grates. When he wants to visit his uncle in California, he climbs into an envelope and mails himself cross-country. When he and his younger brother Arthur go to the park, they don't bring a kite—Stanley-on-a-string is all they need.

But being flat has its disadvantages. The kids at school start calling Stanley names, and now he's crying himself to sleep. Will his classmates' teasing convince him to find a way to un-flatten himself?

The answer is pages away in this entertaining book about a unique and lovable character who has inspired countless kids to create Flat Stanleys of their own to send around the world.

About this Series

Flat Stanley was born in 1964 when author Jeff Brown wrote the first book about Stanley Lambchop. In his first adventure, Stanley's father hangs a large bulletin board above his bed for displaying his pictures and posters. Sadly, during the night, the board falls…flattening Stanley in his sleep.

Stanley survives, and the rest is legend! He makes the best of his paper-thin state, entering locked rooms by sliding under the door and letting his younger brother Arthur use him as a kite. Stanley can even visit friends in faraway places. All it takes is an envelope…and a stamp! Soon Stanley is using his paper-power for the greater good, catching art thieves by posing as a painting on the wall. Eventually, Stanley is tired of being flat, and Arthur changes him back to his proper shape with a bicycle pump. But not for long. He gets hit in the knee by a rubber ball and…wooosh!…he deflates, returning to his old flat self.

Since Jeff Brown's death in 2006, other authors have been enlisted to help continue the series. Today, Stanley is as flat, and as fearless, as ever—traveling to all-new destinations around the globe.
