About this Series

Curious George was created by H. A. Rey and Margret Rey in 1940 shortly before the German-born Jewish couple fled Paris to escape the Nazis. They departed the city on homemade bicycles just hours before the city fell, carrying only their most basic possessions—among them the first illustrated manuscript of Curious George.

Since then, the "good little monkey" with a mile-wide streak of mischief has delighted readers around the world. George is an innocent, born in the jungle, who is lured into the world of human beings by his friend, the Man with the Yellow Hat. Whatever he sees others do, George attempts as well, like dialing a telephone, riding a bike, or trying to fly like a seagull. And the result is always laughter—and trouble!

But George's impulses are driven by inquiry, not by naughtiness, and his curiosity is always celebrated…even as—like the children who love his misadventures—he must inevitably take some hard knocks along the way.
