About the Author

When she was a child, Jean Marzollo's favorite book was A Child's Garden of Verses by Robert Louis Stevenson. Of the I SPY books, Marzollo says, "I can't write the riddles ahead of time without restricting [Walter Wick's] artistic freedom. So I write them while he is constructing his visually stunning sets. I suggest ideas for the pictures and objects that fit the rhyme of the riddles. The process is collaborative. The final riddles are written when the photos are done."

Walter Wick describes his unique style in this way: "I was organizing screws, paper clips, and other odds and ends. As I began sorting, I liked the way the objects looked spread out in my light box. After hours of careful arranging, I took a picture. This photograph of odds and ends was the spark that helped inspire the first I SPY book!"
