Brian P. Cleary was never really interested in schoolwork until he discovered poetry in third grade. Then in fifth grade, his first professional move was the sale of a joke to a Cleveland radio station. In addition to writing children's books, Cleary is the senior editor of the humor staff at American Greetings, and he is affectionately referred to as a "word nerd."
