“Coyote Sings to the Moon” tells a story of the old days, when Moon was much brighter and closer to the earth and Old Woman and the animals would sing to her each night. One night Coyote attempted to join them, but his voice was so terrible they begged him to stop. Feeling rejected, he lashed out, saying, “Who needs the Moon anyway?” Furious, Moon dove into a pond, plunging the world into darkness. Clever Old Woman came up with a plan to send Moon back up into the sky and, thanks to Coyote, there she stays today. In “Coyote’s New Suit,” mischievous Raven wreaks havoc when she suggests that Coyote’s toasty brown suit is not the finest in the forest.
