Get The Most Out of Book Clubs

  • Nancy,
1st Grade Teacher Teacher Tip: Send a reminder to parents...

I send a reminder note home to parents three days before the order is due, and wait until I've received all my orders to submit them each month.

  • Isabelle,
2nd Grade Teacher Teacher Tip: Give students multiple flyers...

I give students more choice by sending home multiple flyers. My students can choose from a wider selections of books online, too, to find what they want. Plus, I can earn even more rewards for my classroom.

How It Works for Teachers
  1. Submitting Your Child's Order
  2. Submitting Your Child's Order
  3. Books Arrive at School!
Next Step Step 1. Starting Your Monthly Book Club Order

Every month, Scholastic provides an opportunity for your students to choose their own books—specifically selected because they're timely, popular, funny, and just right for your class. Here's how to get started.

Review Your Catalog

No matter what grade you teach, there's a catalog that's right for your class.

You may have already received a catalog at school. If not, request the catalogs you'd like to receive each month.

Pass out the individual flyers to your students so they can have fun browsing and shopping. The catalog also features a section of products and promotions just for you.

Set Up Parent Online Ordering or Customize Communication to Parents

Sign in to Book Clubs, click the "Quick Steps" link, and follow the easy setup:

  • Select catalogs for parents to order from online.
  • Set your due date.
  • Write a personalized message that parents will see on their home page.
  • Customize your letter to send home. The letter contains your onetime Class Activation Code that parents will need when they register. This code ensures that their orders go to you.

Of course, parents can choose to order with the paper form.

Distribute and Review Flyers with Your Class

Simply remove the staples from your monthly catalog, and pull out the individual flyers to pass out to your students. Attach your letter (which includes your online Class Activation Code) to send home to parents. Discuss which books you want to recommend to the class—you can even circle specific titles you'd like each child to consider.
